When I hear the word "Baptism' the first thing that pops into my head is 'New Life'. New life as in Jesus coming into your heart. As Jesus comes into your heart, he also comes into your life. You are receiving the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Baptism.
Baptism is a welcoming. This welcoming is not like any normal welcoming, it is the welcoming of you into the church, and the welcoming of Jesus and the Holy Spirit into your heart. Baptism is one of the only sacraments of the Church were you receive Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together at once, into your life.
Baptism is very important for Catholics especially, because Catholics believe that when you get Baptised, you are welcomed into the Catholic faith. The priest uses water as a sign of washing away sins and purifying us, and oil is used as a sign to protected us from evil.
