The Rule of Benedict consists a basic guide for living the Christian life and continues to be followed by Benedictine monastery and convent in the world today. The rule of Benedict consists around a few morals, which are: stability, conversion, obedience, prayer, work, study, hospitality and renewal.
Stability: Stability reminds us the importance of community and commitment life. For a monk or nun, it refers purely on commitment to the monastery for the rest of their lives. Even though we might not be a monastic member, we can make our own vow of stability with our own families, to our faith communities and to our local and global communities.
Conversion: Conversion is one of those morals that is totally up to you. Conversion is when you convert your life to a religious life dedicated to God. There are also milder conversions which you can convert from being an Atheist to a Catholic. The gift of conversion is a gist that comes with the fruit if courage. You need courage to convert religions or to convert you whole life.
Obedience: When Benedict wrote his Rule obedience meant what it said: A monk has to obey the Abbot, the Rule and the Gospel. There are different stages of obedience. We as people can be obedient in different ways. Children can listen to parents, and parents listen to other people. Obedience is a great gift that everyone has. You just need to work at it.
Prayer: Prayer can include community prayer as part of a faith community.
Work: Work can include the attitude that can show when we go to school or work. We should got to school and work with positive attitudes because God has placed us in that situation for a reason.
Study: Study can be, not only school wise, but can also be religion wise. Studying the Bible, reading the Rule of Benedict and listening to the word of God.
Hospitality: Hospitality includes inviting the stranger into our lives. We need to have a right approach to how we treat each other, to treat each other like the way you would treat Christ.
Renewal: Renewal can include the discipline of keeping the sabbath day holy. We need to take time out of our everyday busy lives to spend some time with God. We can talk to God and relax and just focus on the positive in our lives and thank God for all he has blessed us with.
